To be a session volunteer, you don’t need to be a qualified youth leader to be a volunteer, and you don’t need to have had any youth work experience either. We are looking for people who are able to nurture, encourage and talk to our young people. It's up to you as to how much involvement you would like to have during sessions. You can hang around the kettle making hot chocolate, or be out in the Courtyard playing Four Square and Basketball.
By signing up to be a volunteer, you don't have to commit to every week. Most volunteers are on the rota for every fortnight, or even once a month. Some weeks you may be happy to lead a session, whereas other weeks you may just want to be responsible for one of the activities, or alternatively, just be a pair of eyes and ears to support our young people as and when they need it.
If you decide to volunteer with us, we will support you with the training you need to feel confident to volunteer at our sessions. Before every session we have a team briefing, this allows all volunteers and staff to ask any questions, and for the Youth Worker to delegate any tasks for the evening. This is also a good opportunity to discuss which role you would like to fulfil that night. We also have a team briefing at the end of every session, this gives us a chance to reflect on how the session went, and to discuss any issues that may have occurred.
